A Rose Among Roses
This project, A Rose Among Roses, was in response to a selection of poems from Rainer Rilke's Les Roses and Morten Lauridsen's emotive choral works, Les Chansons des Roses. Roses were the source and object of many of Rilke’s most brilliant poems and metaphors. It is in his obsession with the always-potential, with the boundaries and nature of transformations spiritual, mental, and physical, in which the poetry resonates the imagination. Lauridsen's Les Chansons des Roses represents Rilke's words sympathetically with atmospheric polyphonic sounds that bring a feeling of inner peace and reflection. The installation explores themes of solitude, struggles for individualism, love and death.
This installation includes a steel sculptural support comprising a triptych of wax sculptures with embedded roses that form the narrative, a light box installation and photography.
