I am a visual artist from Derry, N.Ireland, a former graduate in Microbiology and teacher. I recently completed my BA Fine Art in the Belfast School of Art. My current and most recent works have been influenced greatly by my knowledge of chemical and natural science, my interest in exploring the autonomy and value of nature within the prevailing anthropocentric context, and how art can be used to engage with and challenge the viewer. I use a broad range of approaches in my work focusing mainly on installation, sculpture and video. When exploring different media and techniques, I combine simple scientific experimentation with creative aesthetics, mainly integrating chemistry with traditional artistic practices. My most recent experimental works have involved bringing plants into the gallery space, manipulating plant processes and combining their inherent physiological systems with inorganic experimental processes. My intention is to share with others my enthusiasm for a multi-disciplinary approach to art-making and to offer others an opportunity to engage with, enjoy aesthetically, and reflect upon, the visual and metaphorical elements and layers of meaning in my work.
