Thread Installation

Over a period of two days, I worked within the six-floor stairwell of the Belfast School of Art using white thread to create a site-specific work that was subtle, rhythmic, abstract and immersive. There is a beauty in creating disturbances by layering fine threads to create geometric forms of varying tones, densities and pathways. Thread offers a simplicity and fine delicacy of its materiality, often juxtaposed against the intricate elaborateness of its webbed configurations. I was able to take advantage of the regular and repeating patterns of the balusters of the railing to create Cubic Bézier curves at each turn, and these were repeated on all six floors.
